Why is this Program only for AARP?
|
 |
When we met with The Chinese Government about their need for Teachers, they were constantly looking for the mature, responsible, family oriented type of individual. The answer was obvious. We had those people. You are the person for whom China is looking to invite into their homes and communities. |

Why is the Program divided into unusual time blocks?
|
 |
The Time Blocks correspond to The Chinese School Calendar. We can give you specific dates upon request. AND, you can participate for any term and multiple terms. |

Can I bring my spouse?
|
 |
Absolutely. Your Spouse may choose to participate and be paid as well. Or, you spouse may simply accompany you. You are both welcome. |
|

What about Crime?
|
 |
China is a peaceful Country and crime is rare. As with anywhere, use common sense with your personal belongings. |
|

What about dress?
|
 |
Dress comfortably. Be prepared for the climate in your region and the season when you are here. Clothes can also be purchased (and made here) |

How much money do I need?
|
 |
Not much. Your room and board are FREE, and you will receive 1000 RMB per month which is more than enough for any incidentals… You can also even take side trips and dine out on the weekend if you want. |

What about Mandarin Lessons?
|
 |
Mandarin Lessons are Free and Optional. You can choose how much time and effort you want to commit. Chinese is not an easy language, but you will come home with some words and some knowledge of Chinese no matter how hard you try not to learn it. |

Where will we be placed?
|
 |
In 90% of the cases you will be place in a rural area… and in most cases it will be in Shandong and Yunnan Province. These Provinces are different so discuss your preference with your Director. There is some flexibility in your placement so we will work with you to accommodate your preference. Remember, that China is a big Country with different climates. This makes your choice of locations interesting as well. |

What about the Certification Requirement?

Certification is NOT required for this Program. |

Do I need a College or University Degree to participate?
|
 |
NO. The only requirement is that English is your native language and that you have a desire to participate. You will be teaching children and, in some cases, adults, who are eager to learn. They will appreciate any help you can give them. |

What is my schedule?
|
 |
You will only be required to teach 15 hours per week. In most cases, but not all, these times will be during the week, leaving your weekends free. |
|

What about extra teaching?
|
 |
You may choose to teach or tutor extra hours for which you are free to charge. |
|
 |
What about “getting around?” I don’t read or speak Chinese.
|
 |
No one has ever been lost for long in China…. You will have challenges, but you will always be able to find where you want to go as well as find what you need. That is part of the experience. |

What about the Program Fee?
|
 |
There are No Program Fees. Your only expense is Round Trip Air Fare to China which is reimbursable and your personal expenses. |

How about a Visa?
|
 |
We provide the necessary documentation for you to obtain your visa plus assistance in the process, if necessary. |
|

What about Immunizations?
|
 |
The following are the recommended vaccinations for China:
1) Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for all travelers over one year of age. It should be given at least two weeks (preferably four weeks or more) before departure.
2) Typhoid vaccine is recommended for all travelers, with the exception of short-term visitors who restrict their meals to major restaurants and hotels, such as business travelers and cruise passengers.
3) Japanese encephalitis vaccine is recommended for long-term (1 month) to rural areas or travelers who may engage in extensive unprotected outdoor activities in rural areas, especially in the evening, during shorter trips.
4) Hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for all travelers, if not previously vaccinated. 5) Rabies vaccine is recommended for travelers spending a lot of time outdoors.

What about Medical Insurance?

In addition to your standard medical insurance, we strongly recommend that you purchase “Emergency Medical Insurance” for the duration of your stay in China. This will enable you to be transported to a facility of your choice. |

How do I get my Prescription drugs?
|
 |
Prescription drugs can be easily purchased from the hospitals and clinics or local retailer drug shops with doctor’s prescription. |

What about “Over The Counter Drugs" such as Advil and Tylenol?
|

Over the counter drugs can be easily purchased at local drug stores and for much lower prices. |

Are there any political concerns?
|
 |
No, you are very safe and very welcome. Americans are admired, envied, and respected. Choose your conversations appropriately, just as you would at home. |
